Sacred Music Saturday Series

What is Sacred Music Saturday?

Sacred Music Saturdays is an inspiring online seminar series from the Sacred Music Institute of America, free of charge, designed for clergy, music directors, organists, cantors, and parish musicians who wish to deepen their skills, expand their knowledge, and renew their passion for the Church’s musical tradition. Each seminar features an expert-led presentation that blends practical instruction, historical insight, and live demonstration—equipping you with techniques you can immediately bring to your own ministry.

In the fall series, you’ll explore the artistry of “Improvisation and the Music of Jean Langlais” with Dr. Ann Labounsky, learning how one of the 20th century’s greatest organists blended discipline and freedom, and how his improvisation methods can transform your own playing. You’ll master the art of “Organ Registration” for hymns, choral accompaniments, and repertoire in different national styles, discovering how to bring clarity, balance, and beauty to every performance. And you’ll gain a proven, pastoral blueprint for “Transforming Parish Music to a More Sacred Style,” with a long-term plan for building a culture of excellence rooted in Gregorian chant, the Church’s documents, and thoughtful collaboration between pastor and music director.

Whether you attend one session or all, Sacred Music Saturdays will both inspire and equip you—giving you the knowledge, tools, and confidence to elevate your parish music program and serve the liturgy with beauty and reverence.
